Zambia
- Walks through the Wilderness
One of the largest Southern
African countries, Zambia has
captured travelers' imaginations
since Livingstone "discovered"
Victoria Falls in the 19th
century. But the unspoiled
nature of Zambia is perhaps its
greatest tourist asset, and
walking safaris are its great
safari innovation. They are
organized in both the Luangwa
Valley and in Kafue National
Park, and offer an unparalleled
experience of seeing animals
much as the early explorers did,
with no barriers between you and
the wild. This is nature up
close, in vast open spaces where
you and your guide set off
quietly through the bush in
search of rhino and elephant,
giraffe, leopard, monkeys, kudu
and other species of Luangwa's
woodland savanna. Driving
safaris in open landrovers are
also available. But you don't
need any special skills or
equipment to make the walks,
just a keen appreciation of
wildlife and deep interest in
nature overall.
